3rd and 43

Just some thoughts and photos from the Spring Game and “after party” on Saturday. Damien Berry (#20) was the highlight of the game finishing with 114 yards on 14 carries including a 54 yard dash to the end zone pictured here.Damien BerryDamien Berry 1Damien Berry 2Berry also does flips.
Thearon Collier (#28) is open right now as you are reading this. He seems to have a knack for recognizing coverage and finding the open area and Jacory is seeing it. He caught five passes for 65 yards.Thearon Collier
Miami has fullbacks this year and it looks like they intend to use them. I know this may come as a shock after the Nix years. It seemed to surprise the defense as well as John Calhoun (#43) caught a pass near the goal line and was able to score untouched.John Calhoun
After the game a bunch of Hurricanes players from times past got together and mingled with fans at the “first annual Spring Game Alumni After Party” at Miami Prime Grill.Canes Invented Swagger
Art Kehoe was honored because well he’s Art Kehoe. They gave him a trophy of a football and a t-shirt and he fired up the crowd a bit. Art Kehoe
I can’t leave these guys out of the post. 3ofucking5One of them patted me on the shoulder insisting I take their photo. At one of the recent FSU games the guy in the middle was screaming “Three O f**king five!” Which the Seminole fans responded to with something like, “What? 742?” He was very agitated and would yell back, “No! It’s three O f**king five!” Gotta love Canes fans.

The headache of Bryce Brown is finally over. He has officially committed to the University of Tennessee. It was a roller-coaster recruiting process for Brown, his family and all teams involved. He committed to Miami early in the process in order to avoid a recruiting circus, but in the end his recruitment became the biggest recruiting spectacle ever. His “mentor” set up a website where people had to pay to get updates. He graduated high school in December but didn’t make a final decision until over two months after Signing Day. He is a talented player but according to his high school coach is a me first kind of player.

It’s always been him and then everybody else,” Byers said about Brown to the New York Times. “Our team chemistry was nonexistent.

He didn’t even stretch with his high school team in his junior and senior year opting to do it on his own. When Miami’s scholarship offer expired two weeks after Signing Day Coach Shannon opted not to renew the offer.

No one player is bigger than the University of Miami,” Shannon said.

When it came time to make a decision the coaching staff decided that no single player is bigger than the team. Miami will be back to winning championships in the near future, but it will be with team players. He is Tennessee’s head ache now.
